Hypertension is Serious and Often Misunderstood

What is hypertension, we hear that term quite a bit, we also hear terms used to describe children who are "hyper" or hyper-active, but hypertension refers to higher than normal blood pressure and not hyper activity. This is not to say that those who are hyper-active do not also have higher than normal blood pressure; they may or they may not. Having higher than normal or average blood pressure is not always bad; some people have slightly higher than normal blood pressure their whole lives.

When is hypertension or high blood pressure bad? When it is caused by kidney disease or when it is accompanied or causes such things as heart disease, strokes or arterial aneurysm. Chronic hypertension can put patients at risks of such things and other potentially deadly or worsened conditions. What causes hypertension or high-blood pressure? Well, some is genetic or hereditary, which is to be expected, although more common are choices in food or diet, amount of exercise and age.

Too high of blood pressure can be considered a death sentence if not treated say many doctors. This is one reason that pharmaceutical companies make a ton of money on high blood pressure drugs, because without them those patients could die in a very short time. It is said that once your blood pressure reaches 50% of average that your life expectancy goes down to about 3-years and that is scary stuff for those with extreme hypertension. Let's hope that the drugs for these things get better and safer and/or a cure is found to totally reverse this hypertension problem in people.
